The sporty Q5 compact luxury crossover SUV received a freshened exterior design for 2013 that makes it look more like a smaller version of Audi’s midsize Q7 crossover, along with added features and a new gas/electric hybrid-powered version. A 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine and quick shifting eight-speed automatic transmission remains the standard powertrain, with a supercharged 3.0-liter 272-horsepower V-6 newly available. A higher-performance SQ5 version will be added to the line for 2014. The car’s interior remains nicely cast and reasonably roomy. Audi’s quattro all-wheel-drive is standard with many high-tech features offered, including a navigation system that can display locations using realistic Google Maps satellite views. It competes with a growing number of compact luxury crossovers including the Acura RDX, BMW X3, Infiniti EX, and the Mercedes-Benz GLK-Class.
